© 19?? - Miss Barbie Facemold

Miss Barbie® (issued 1964) is distinguished by two special features. The was the first Barbie with bendable legs and she was the first doll (and the only vintage) with sleep eyes, that could be closed / opened.

The head looks similar to the original Barbie facemold, but the hairs are molded and the head is made of a hard plastic matrial with eye holes. Unfortunately the material reacts with each other so the poor Miss Barbie often has melting damages at the forehead.

Like the Fashion Queen Miss Barbie had three wigs in her set: blonde pageboy, red bubblecut and brunette flip. She wore a swimsuit and had a funny bath cap that reminded to a mop.

Her most important feature was the sleep eyes. But that frightened the children, so the production of Miss Barbie was quickly discontinued. Today she is very rare and hard to find.

The headmark in the neck is sadly without the year, so it's unknown when it was patented. It's only © M.I.
Her body was patented in the USA and has the mark: © 1958/Mattel, Inc./U.S. Patented/U.S. Pat. Pend.
